It is with profound sadness and deep respect that we pay tribute to Richie Tierney, a true giant within the Rower Inistioge GAA Club. Richie was much more than just a dedicated member; he was the heart and soul of the club. His commitment to the club and its members was unwavering, and his legacy will forever be etched in the history of the Rower Inistioge GAA.
Richie’s influence on the club was felt at every level. He dedicated countless hours to coaching and training teams, from the youngest players right up to our intermediate team. His passion for the game and the club was remarkable.
Richie also served the club in many roles off the field, where his leadership and vision were invaluable. As a long-serving committee member, Richie held various positions over the years, but his proudest moment came in 2019 when he was appointed Chairman, a position he held for five years. His leadership during that time, particularly in navigating challenges such as Covid, will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
In addition to his work with the club's teams and committee, Richie played an instrumental role in organising the club’s annual golf classic. His recent appointment as Chairman of the Golf Classic Committee was just one more example of his ongoing dedication and generosity towards the club. Richie’s ability to bring people together for a common cause made him a driving force behind so many of the club’s successes.
Richie was a generous benefactor of the Rower Inistioge GAA Club. His support, both in time and in resources, made a lasting difference to the development and growth of the club. The Tierney family have been and always will be an integral part of our club’s fabric, and Richie’s contribution will be remembered as one of the cornerstones of our community.
We offer our deepest sympathy to Richie’s wife Josette, his children Michelle, Richard, Pat, and Geraldine, his brother Mickey, and his sister Catherine. Our thoughts are with you all at this incredibly difficult time.
Richie’s passing leaves a void in the heart of the Rower Inistioge GAA Club that will never be filled. His legacy, however, will live on in the countless players, volunteers, and members he influenced over the years.
Rest in peace, Richie. You will never be forgotten.
