Congratulations to our U16 and Minor panels who had impressive wins in their respective championship games this week.
Rower Inistioge V Tullaroan U16
The U16's were first up on Monday evening against Tullaroan in the preliminary round of the Duggan Steel U16 Roinn B championship. Hurling into a strong breeze, we led by seven points but a goal on the stroke of half time cut the lead to four at the interval, 2-10 to 2-6. With the aid of the wind, we fired over the first two points of the second half stretching the lead to six. In a twelve minute spell, the game was finished as a contest, as we outscored Tullaroan 1-8 to 0-1 between the 6th and 18th minutes stretching the lead to fifteen, 3-20 to 2-8. The final score was 3-22 to 3-9. The U16's will now meet Graigue Ballycallan in the first round of the championship in Inistioge on Saturday 20th September at 10.30am. When the sides met in the league, the game finished in a draw.
Rower Inistioge V Clara Minor
The minors built on their very impressive first round showing against St. Martins when they met Clara on Wednesday in the quarter-final of the Kilkenny Vehicle Centre Roinn B championship. They have made a habit of getting out of the blocks quickly and last night was no different as they raced into a 0-10 to 0-4 lead midway through the first half. Remarkably, when the half time whistle was blown, we led 0-20 to 0-8. Two Ned Spelman goals within seven minutes left the result in no doubt as we led 2-25 to 0-12 midway through the second half. The final score was 2-28 to 0-14. The minors will now meet Glenmore in the semi-final of the championship on Saturday 27th September at 10.30am.
There was great support at both games which no doubt boosted the lads performance. It would be great to get similar support for their upcoming games.
