The Club Executive has taken the decision to honour Eddie Keher by commissioning a bronze statue in honour of his incredible hurling legacy.
Eddie is widely regarded as one of the greatest hurlers of all time. A six-time All-Ireland winner with Kilkenny - captaining the team in 1969, Hurler of the Year in 1972, a five-time All-Star and four time Cú Chulainn award winner, he was named on both the GAA Hurling Team of the Century and the Team of the Millennium. Eddie jointly managed Kilkenny to win an All Ireland in 1979. Eddie also achieved success with the Club winning a Junior County title in 1963 before going on to win a Senior County title in 1968.
This project aims to recognise his achievements and his lasting connection to our club and community.
To progress the project, a sub-committee was established under the chairmanship of Jim Dunphy. This committee has met regularly over the past number of months and significant progress has now been made.
We are approaching the stage where a planning application will be submitted for the proposed statue, which is intended to be located on Club grounds near the pedestrian access to the GAA pitch in Inistioge.
In advance of the planning submission, a public briefing will take place as follows:
