We wanted to give members of Rower Inistioge GAA Club a brief update on the progress of our statue project.

Last month, members of the committee visited Seamus Connolly’s studio to view the completed clay sculpture. Following a few minor tweaks, we were delighted to sign off on the sculpture, which has now moved to the next stage of the process — casting the statue in bronze.

Groundworks on the site of the statue are due to commence this week, and it is very exciting to see the project beginning to take shape.

The official unveiling of the statue will take place on 29th November, with further details to follow in the coming weeks.

The committee has always been very conscious of not expecting the local community to fund the cost of this project. We are delighted that, through initiatives such as our corporate evening and generous corporate donations, in excess of 80% of the funding has already been raised from outside the parish.

Recently, however, a number of local members and supporters have approached committee members asking if there is an opportunity for them to contribute towards the statue.
